Wedding Photographers Lake District with Mark & Selena at Holbeck Ghyll Hotel Cumbria

Mark and Selena were married at the prestigious Holbeck Ghyll Country House Hotel.  Recognised as one of the best restaurants in the North, Holbeck Ghyll Michelin-Starred fine dining rooms form the focal-point of most visits to this country house hotel and for Mark and Selena it proved to be a superb location.  They have lived and worked  in Dubai for the last five years but the Lake District was their chosen destination for their special day.  Selena looked fantastic in her Ian Stuart wedding dress and Mark and his Groomsmen had all treated themselves to some very smart suits from Ted Baker.  The Ceremony and the Reception were both at Holbeck Ghyll so for Ruth and I it was an easy afternoon and there are so many great places around the Hotel to get memorable images. The time of the year was spot on as well as everything was turning to Autumn colours.  All in all a great day. Music was supplied by Take Cover, a band that travelled up from Liverpool.

We have also announced on our general website the opening of our new Photographic Studio in Kendal.  So if you are interested in Before/After, Portrait, Family, Lifestyle or Model photoshoots please give us a call as we now have the facility to shoot indoors as well as out on location.

A Wedding Photographers Advice

I hope you will not think us too forward but having photographed many weddings we have learnt so much along the way, a lot of which I believe will also be of great benefit for Brides to Be that will be looking at our website.

When you look at a Wedding Photographers website and see photographs of Grooms and Brides on windswept hills, in fields and near the lakeshore it is important to remember that these images take time to set up and sometimes to get to.  One of the most common problems we have found is the under-estimation of time needed between the end of the Ceremony and the arrival at the Reception.  As photographers we do not want to rush you, we usually allow for fifteen minutes outside the place of Ceremony to take informal photographs of you, your families and guests before we call for the formal photographs to be taken.  It is important to remember that formal shots can take a large chunk of the time you have available as it is not usually easy to ’round’ up all the people and sets you have on your list.  We always recommend keeping that list quite short so that not too much time passes.

When it comes time to go and get your intimate and romantic image with your Partner take into account that the Wedding Car you have hired may not be able to negotiate some of the roads, especially if you are looking for some of the wilder locations available.  We get round this problem by taking the Bride and Groom in our own car which is big enough to carry all the photographic equipment as well as the Bride in wedding dress and Groom.

Unless you are keeping your images confined to posing on manicured lawns it is inevitable that your Wedding dress will get marked, sometimes quite dirty around the bottom.  For photographs this is not a problem as the marks can be erased but if you are wanting to keep your dress pristine then thought needs to be given as to where you are going.

The Hair and Make Up artist(s) really needs to be finished an hour before you are due to leave your location to travel to the place of Ceremony.  This hour is besides any travel time needed.  This will give us enough time to get the images you will want to see of yourself after the Wedding Day is over.  At that moment you are at your most perfect.  Hair, make up and dress is perfect.  As the day moves on that might not be the case.  The room also may need to be cleared of ‘clutter’ so that it doesn’t detract from your photograph.  All these things take time!  There are many more points to discuss and that is why we always make time to meet up before both the Pre Wedding shoot and the Wedding Day itself.  We want to give you Images to Cherish and that you will be delighted with, so mutual discussion helps to achieve that.

Here are some more images from Sam and Lorna’s day.

Wedding Photographers Cumbria with Sam & Lorna at Broadoaks Country House Hotel

Sam & Lorna travelled over from Belgium to get married so this was a Destination Wedding in reverse.  Sam grew up in Cumbria and his Grandparents are resting in the Church where Sam and Lorna took their vows in Thornthwaite.  Time was a little short on the way back down to Windermere so we stopped off at Thirlmere and then took the long cut route to Broadoaks Country House Hotel via Holbeck Lane. For those who don’t know Broadoaks it is a delightful small Hotel nestling in the hills above Windermere.  The Boudoir bedroom where the Bride prepares for her day is a photographers dream with interesting light, a four poster and bold wall coverings.  Sam and Lorna had arranged for a beautiful old motor car, a 1930’s Daimler called James, to carry them from Windermere up to the North Lakes and back again. Champagne, a band from Liverpool, provided the evening music which was really well received and brought a fitting conclusion to a really good day.

Wedding Photographers Lake District wins Gold!

This week I got some terrific news.  The Society for Wedding and Portrait Photographers awarded us, not one, but two Golds and a Highly Commended.  I think this is pretty unheard of, that in the same month the Society would give three awards to the one photographer.  I guess this is a great endorsement of what Ruth and I are setting out to achieve in the images we capture on behalf of our Clients.  We have just photographed Sam and Lorna last Saturday as they got married at Thornthwaite Church and then held the Reception at Broadoaks Country House Hotel so we are busy processing all their images.  Keep watching our Blog as they should be up by the end of next week.  We were with them for 12 hours in total so a lot of work to get through.  Then this Saturday we are with Michael and Katie who will be holding their Wedding Breakfast at Cartmel Racecourse.  Busy time for Stephen Peters Photography!

Here is a little taster from Sam and Lorna’s wedding.

Wedding Photographers Cumbria with Rob & Nicki at Storrs Hall Windermere Cumbria

Rob and Nicki were married on Saturday at Jesus Church, Troutbeck, Cumbria and then went on for the reception at Storrs Hall in Windermere.  As well as being a lovely couple, for me as a wedding photographer this was a great opportunity to create some memorable images.  Both Rob and Nicki were really keen on capturing stunning images for their Album and invested the time between the Ceremony and the evening party to create them.  I cannot emphasise enough how important it is to allow enough time to visit the right locations and look for the right kind of light.  We were with the Bride and Groom from 9:30am through until 9:30pm and were able to capture light, rain, sky, sun, humour, emotion, love and intimacy through the day.  Within 30 minutes of putting some of their photos on Facebook yesterday they already had seen more than 300 viewers to the portfolio .  We have a very busy September coming up so look forward to sharing more wedding photographs with you soon.

Wedding Photographers Lake District with Matt & Emily at Mitton Hall Lancashire

We enjoyed a wonderful day out in Lancashire with Matt and Emily, first of all at St Bartholomews Church in Great Harwood for the Wedding Ceremony and then on to Mitton Hall, Clitheroe, Lancashire for the Wedding Reception.  Mitton Hall is such a fantastic location for Wedding Photography and the staff were very obliging, allowing us to set up some shots in the Great Hall.  We arrived at Emily’s house a couple of hours before the Ceremony and enjoyed a relaxed photoshoot with Emily’s Mum, Bridesmaids and of course Emily herself.  Emily was really happy with the results of her hair and make up which was was accomplished by Vickie from Mad About Beauty (can be found under that name on Facebook).  Just recently we received an email from Matt’s Mum which said in part  ‘When I first viewed the slide show I was totally blown away with the images, you captured the intimacy of the day perfectly.  We struggled to choose which ones to have printed, they were all so good’. So a good day for all involved!

Wedding Photographers Cumbria with Sam & Lorna

Sam and Lorna are due to be married in early September at the Broadoaks Country House Hotel, a beautiful little spot just above Troutbeck Bridge.  As time was marching on we decided to fix the Pre Wedding shoot and Sam was keen for it to be up near Thornthwaite as that is where his family originate and they are getting married at Thornthwaite Church.  So we met at the side of Bassenthwaite Lake, hoping we might see an Osprey or two sweeping down behind them as we meandered around the lake shore.  No such luck, in fact all we did get was some grey cloud!  Not to worry as Sam and Lorna cheered us all up with their enthusiasm for one another, some couples are just born to be in love and in front of the camera!  On the way back down past Thirlmere we found an interesting little hotel, the Dale Head Hall Hotel, overlooking the Lake and stopped off for coffee and biscuits as well as a few more photos.  Many thanks to the Farmer and his wife who held the sheep shearing up whilst we made use of their flock as an interesting background, they appeared quite mesmerised as Sam and Lorna got loved up!

Wedding Photographers Lake District with Ian and Heather at Leighton Hall Lancashire

A bright sunny day and a most beautiful location, that is Leighton Hall in Lancashire.  As a choice of location, the grounds, landscape and building cannot be beaten.  For Ian and Heather none of it could be improved on and the Guests just had a ball.  Ruth and I make it a practice to pack our own sandwiches so that when everyone sits down for the Wedding Breakfast we can grab some much needed sustenance.  On this occasion though we were sorry we had not taken up the offer to enjoy the banquet laid on by Karen Rhodes Catering which looked absolutely fantastic.  The gorgeous Rolls Royce you see in the photographs was supplied by Nigel Bowman from Wedding Car Services and I was fortunate enough to hitch a lift in the front seat when we went back up the drive to capture Ian and Heather in front of that magnificent landscape.  The wedding cake, the flowers of which were all made from icing, was from Blackberry Cottage Bakery.  All in all a magnificent day!

Wedding Photographers Lake District with Rob and Nicki at Lodore Falls

Despite many days of torrential rain in Cumbria the day Rob and Nicki had chosen for their Pre Wedding photoshoot turned out to be gorgeous weather that proved to be warm enough for them both to brave the chilling effects of Derwent water!  Now I have to say at this point that it is not a requirement from us that our Clients jump in a lake.  We do ask whether you are up for some fun (so long as we don’t have to get wet!) however that normally means a paddle in some low lying water.  Rob is a Physio for the British Olympic Team and clearly is extremely fit so we suspect that a short swim in the lake was bread and butter to him.  Anyway we had a great time and are really looking forward to their wedding in four weeks time when they are getting married at Jesus Church in Troutbeck and then holding a reception at Storrs Hall in Windermere.  We won’t be asking Nicki to jump in the lake with her wedding dress!  We will Blog some more of the Pre Wedding photoshoot in the future as there were so many fantastic images from the day but for now here is a small selection.

Wedding Photographers Lake District Signature Frame

We recently posted a short Wedding Photographers Lake District blog on our new Signature Frames which we now include with every newly booked Wedding photoshoot.  The photos we included showed the option with a black frame. Having recently received the other option of a Champagne frame we just wanted to display that too so everyone can see the quality of this new product which we are delighted to have.  This particular one is for Ian and Lindsay whom we will be joining in July at The Inn On The Lake Hotel Ullswater for their wedding photography.  It seems there is a greater trend this year to book the Photographer much later than known previously, so if you are still looking for a Wedding Photographer please call us, we still have some dates available this year.  July is going to be incredibly busy for us so keep up to date by following this blog or follow our Facebook page where you will find us under Lake District Wedding Photographer.
